RECRUITING

THE STARTING LINE

COMMUNICATION

  • Introductory Email: A template including: name, GPA, position, height, and a link to their film.

  • X (Twitter) DM Etiquette: How to send a professional message to a coach on social media without being annoying.

  • Phone Call Checklist: A list of 5–10 questions a player should ask a coach (e.g., "What is your style of play?" or "What position do you see me playing in your system?").

VIDEO & EXPOSURE

  • Highlight Reel Guide: Link to an article (or write your own) explaining that a highlight reel should be 3–5 minutes long, start with their best plays, and include their contact info at the beginning.

  • The Power of X (Twitter): Explain why college coaches use X more than any other platform.

  • Link suggestion: A "How to set up a recruiting-friendly X profile" guide.

ACADEMIC & TESTING

  • SAT Registration: College Board

  • ACT Registration: ACT.org

  • GPA Calculator: Provide a link to a site like RaiseMe or a core-course GPA calculator specifically for athletes.

EXPECTATIONS

  • "DI vs. DII vs. DIII": Link to an article explaining the differences in scholarships and time commitment.

  • "The Truth About the Transfer Portal": With the portal as active as it is in 2026, players need to understand that high school recruiting has become more competitive.

  • Reputable Blogs: Link to sites like Prep Hoops or 247Sports so they can see what "ranked" players are doing.

RECRUITING IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT.

College coaches rarely just 'discover' players. They respond to players who show initiative, have high character, and take their academics seriously. Don't wait for the phone to ring -- make the first move. Use these resources to build your brand and get your name on their boards.
